reciProfity links to the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference (Release 28, released September 2015, slightly revised May 2016)
Associate any of your ingredients with a USDA nutrient code and we will use that code to follow USDA 2017 guidelines for restaurant menus.
Why it's important
USDA nutrient codes offer a standardized way to classify and track the nutritional content of foods, which is crucial for reciProfity. By leveraging USDA's comprehensive database, reciProfity can provide accurate and up-to-date nutritional information, streamline menu planning and cost analysis, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance user trust with reliable data. Additionally, reciProfity users can add custom-built codes for any ingredient not available in the USDA database, offering flexibility and comprehensive nutritional tracking.
Assigning nutrient codes is important for several reasons:
- Standardization: USDA nutrient codes provide a standardized method for classifying and tracking the nutritional content of foods. This ensures consistency and accuracy in nutritional data.
- Comprehensive Data: reciProfity can utilize the USDA's extensive database, which includes comprehensive information on a wide variety of foods. This allows the provision of accurate and up-to-date nutritional information to users.
- Regulatory Compliance: Providing nutritional information backed by the USDA can enhance user trust and credibility. This assures users that the data is reliable and government-approved.
- User Trust: Providing USDA-backed nutritional information can enhance user trust and credibility, as it assures users that the data is reliable and government-approved.
- Custom-Built Nutrient Codes: reciProfity users can add custom-built nutrient codes for any ingredients not available in the USDA database. This flexibility allows them to include unique or proprietary ingredients, ensuring comprehensive and accurate nutritional tracking.
How to use it
On the Edit Ingredient page, start typing the ingredient name in the Nutrient Codes field. The search function is quite dynamic. It does not matter if you type butter light, light butter, or stick butter; it returns all the options in the image below. Select the one that best matches the ingredient.
If the USDA nutrient code has an associated conversion, reciProfity displays it in the Conversions section of Ingredients with a yellow bar to indicate USDA.
The Book of Yields also shows the conversions with a blue bar. Additionally, you can create manual conversions, which do not have a color bar associated with them.
Custom nutrient codes
If you can't find the ingredient listed in the USDA or Book of Yields, don't worry - create your own Custom Nutrient Codes.
