Merging Ingredients:
The order guide facilitates the quick import of ingredients. However, it can result in duplicate ingredients linked to different vendors. The merge feature consolidates multiple ingredients into a single ingredient and combines all vendor product data under one ingredient. (Click here to see how this affects physical counts).
This method is used when an original product is discontinued, and a substitute is introduced. While the original ingredient remains the same, the vendor product has changed, and it should still be linked to the original ingredient because it is used in all the recipes. If you create a new ingredient instead, it must replace the original ingredient's assignment in each recipe, which can be a time-consuming task.
Use The Optimizer to Merge Ingredients
1) Click on the hamburger menu in the top left corner
2) Click on The Optimizer.
3) Then choose Merge Ingredients:
4) Determine which ingredient(s) you want to combine.
Merge the secondary into the primary ingredient. This results in a single ingredient with multiple products.
**** If you use both products in different recipes and merge them into one ingredient, we will change the ingredient used in the merged recipe to the primary product. This is called a substitution. ****
Substitutions and Correct Pricing:
If the merged product is the one you currently use, be sure to check the box next to "Current Price." This ensures that Product #1 will be substituted in any recipe using this ingredient, along with the corresponding price.
Here is an example of a combined ingredient that comprises several products.
Granny Smith apples is the Primary Ingredient with 2 Products from 2 different vendors.
