What Ingredient Naming Fields Mean in reciProfity
Each ingredient in reciProfity includes three naming fields. While all three refer to the same ingredient, each field serves a different purpose.
- Ingredient Name is the internal name used by your team.
- Item Name is the vendor's product description.
- Nutrition Label Name is the name that appears on nutrition labels.
Using the appropriate name in each field helps keep ingredient records organized while supporting purchasing, inventory control, and nutrition labeling.
Ingredient Name
The Ingredient Name is your internal name for the ingredient.
This is the name your team will see most often when searching for ingredients and building recipes. Choose a name that is clear and easy to recognize.
Item Name
The Item Name is the vendor's name for the product.
This field should match the description from the vendor's catalog. Including case pack information can help distinguish similar products.
The Item Name appears throughout inventory control features, including:
- Purchase orders
- Invoices
- Count sheets
- Requisitions
Nutrition Label Name
The Nutrition Label Name is the public-facing name for the ingredient.
This is the name that appears on nutrition labels. For consistency, choose a naming style and apply it across all ingredients.
If the Nutrition Label Name field is disabled or left blank, reciProfity uses the Ingredient Name on nutrition labels instead.
Enabling the Nutrition Label Name Field
The Nutrition Label Name field is disabled by default.
To enable it:
- Select the gear icon.
- Select Setup.
- Select Options.
- Open Inventory Items.
- Enable Item and Recipe Name Label Override Field.
Once enabled, return to the ingredient and enter a Nutrition Label Name.
