ChefTec imports into CostGuard are supported with limitations. Because CostGuard is no longer actively supported, results may vary and cannot be guaranteed. The conversion process is fixed and cannot be modified.
What Transfers During Import
Inventory and Recipe Details
- ChefTec’s “pre” instructions transfer into CostGuard’s “prep” field.
- Long inventory and recipe names may be truncated.
- Recipe methods are imported, but images are not.
- Spaces in units of measure are removed.
- The conversion process creates recipe units in CostGuard.
Pack Sizes and Item Variations
- Items purchased in different pack sizes in ChefTec appear as separate inventory items in CostGuard.
- If the same item name is purchased in multiple pack sizes, each version appears as a separate item with a modified name to reflect the pack size. You can rename these items in CostGuard.
- Items without purchase or unit conversion data are imported with a case and pack size of “EA” and packs per case set to 1, allowing them to be used in recipes.
Categories and Grouping
- ChefTec item categories convert to CostGuard groups.
- If a category includes a colon (e.g.,
Cost of Food: Dairy), the part before the colon becomes the supergroup, and the part after becomes the group in CostGuard.
Vendor and Cost Information
- If the exact same item is purchased from two vendors, both vendors are linked to that item in the Ordering tab.
- Costing is based on the last invoice, which becomes the purchase price of the inventory item.
What Doesn’t Transfer Automatically
USDA nutritional mapping is not imported. You’ll need to add this data manually.
To swap items in recipes, use the Substitution command in CostGuard.
