Why it's important
Typically, invoices only include case sizes, the number of cases purchased, and the price; they do not specify pack sizes. In contrast, order guides include pack size information.
Without knowing the contents of a case, we cannot determine the cost of a recipe. For example, if you buy a case of flour, the invoice might state "1 case at $35.00 per case," but it does not show that there are 2 bags weighing 25 pounds each in that case. Without knowing the number of pounds of flour per case, we can't calculate the cost per pound, which means we are unable to price a recipe that requires 1 pound of flour.
Below is an illustration of the reciProfity product information for flour, highlighting the fields included in an order guide but absent from an invoice.
Knowing the weight of flour in a case allows us to calculate both the total case cost and the cost per pound.
